My Month Of Peace ! Jn14:27

This morning we are going to talk about a dark episode in the Bible but one that concerns us all.
The story tells us about Dinah, the daughter of Jacob and Leah, who went out to meet the girls of the land.
Shechem noticed her and abducted her and slept with her, using violence.
Except that the boy became attached to Dinah, fell in love and touched her heart with his words.
Accompanied by his father, the prince of the city goes to Jacob and his sons to ask for the hand of their child Dinah.
We must note that Shechem is full of himself, he does not take the time to humiliate himself even to be forgiven, he does not feel guilty for his infamous action.
He does not realise that it is a dishonour, an unacceptable thing.
Shechem knows that he is the son of an authority, everything is permitted to him, he thinks that giving away all the material of the land solves this problem.
It is rather his father who is in a posture of desolation, of supplication.
For him, marrying Dina is a reward, an atonement.
And in his scheme he is blinded, he cannot even determine the fury of these men.
In the cunning of the children of Jacob, they proposed circumcision, wanting to take advantage of it to take revenge.
This is how the children of Judah took advantage of the weakness of a people to massacre them.
Were Dinah’s brothers obliged to behave like that?
Was forgiveness not possible because their sister was already in a home?
We are not saying that what Shechem did was acceptable, we are just saying that a consensus was possible, peace could be negotiated since Shechem was ready to do anything to be accepted.
And that is what concerns us this morning.
Self-control
We can’t control ourselves, we always want to express our displeasure in any way, we think that giving in to the desires of the flesh is our best option.
Here is God’s advice for us this day:
Proverbs, 16:32 – He who is slow to anger is better than a mighty man, And he who is self-controlled, than he who takes cities.
Fast and pray for self control.
Our most common fault is anger.
Self-control is patience.
It is wisdom and strength to bear the unbearable without retaliation.
Anger attracts sin; it is sin.
A hero, a courageous person, a model or even a genius is worthless if he or she does not know how to keep self-control, if he or she does not know how to dominate or control himself or herself.
It is calmness and knowing how to keep one’s cool that gives strength, that puts us on top and opens unexpected doors.
So, let’s calm down, let’s ease up, let’s relax,
Let’s moderate ourselves,
And we will avoid useless fights that are not necessarily ours.
Good day to all
Good day to you
