My Month Of Testimonies! Ps75:9

The story of Naboth’s vineyard reminds us that justice applies to everyone, even kings.
Ahab coveted the piece of land to make a vegetable garden for a man called Naboth.
Ahab offers to pay a good price for it or to give him better land elsewhere in exchange.
Naboth doesn’t agree; the land is his parents’ inheritance and he doesn’t want to part with it.
Ahab was saddened by this refusal and mourned.
Then Jezebel, his wife, stepped in and took matters into her own hands.
For her, he is the king,
the authority,
the exercise of kingship over Israel, it’s always him, so she knows what to do.
Jezebel sets the scene and suggests a trial.
Under the king’s seal, she writes a letter to the elders of the city where Naboth lives, in which she suggests a way of getting rid of him.
She suggested finding two men to testify against Naboth and say that he had cursed God and the king.
Then let the people stone him to death.
The elders carried out the queen’s order and also put the owner’s heirs to death.
The queen returns to her husband to tell him that the vineyard is his to do with as he pleases, Naboth is dead now.
The story has no moral, because the sentence was based on false testimony.
The prophet Elijah intervened, denouncing the king’s attitude and declaring a curse against Ahab, which spread to his descendants.
Even if it was Jezebel who set up the plot, Ahab is guilty of having let it happen.
Can we see what false testimony can do?
False testimony can destroy a person’s life,
False testimony forces people to fight battles they didn’t have to fight before,
A false testimony veils the truth.
False witness can be our words, our actions.
How many ministries have been damaged and failed because of slander and gossip without substance and backbiting without charity?
Worthwhile spiritual works have been sabotaged,
the body of Christ wounded.
How a criminal act can cause unrest, can pollute hearts,
can tarnish reputations…
Let’s be careful not to spread false rumours.
And that’s what the Lord absolutely wants to emphasise on this day.
It’s good to bear witness, but let’s stand on the side of truth.
Let’s not let our pride and our desires turn us away from the word of God,
Let us not let the world seduce us into denying the very essence of our Lord.
Fast and pray not to bear false witness.
Leviticus, 5:1 – If anyone, after being sworn in as a witness, sins by not declaring what he has seen or what he knows, he shall remain guilty.
He who gives his voice as a witness and does not tell the truth will not go unpunished.
We must watch our mouths, we must be careful what our lips say.
We must control our words and choose gentle, soothing words for the glory of God.
So let our Jesus lead us and keep us from vain words.
Father, teach us to know your ways.
