Jesus was teaching the basics of the kingdom of God to his disciples, and a crowd joined them to listen to the word.
In his teaching, Jesus made them understand that we are not in church for the same reasons.
Some are there out of curiosity,
Others are there to hear the word, they receive it, they are happy at the time but radio silence afterwards.
There are some who really want to follow the Lord, but they are not firm; at the slightest problem, they return to the world, they are unsteady.
Finally, there is another category who want to follow Jesus, who want to be like the Lord.
This last wave are the disciples.
The crowd are those who run after vain things, but the disciples know their God and act firmly.
During his preaching, the Lord made us understand that we cannot remain on the basics of the Christian life,
we have to move forward,
we have to move up a gear,
We must aspire to new opportunities,
new territories,
We have to aspire to new opportunities, new territories, new glories, but this requires commitment.
Jesus orders us to go over to the other side to hope for the best, to discover the wonders of the Lord.
And we cannot read this without effort,
without sacrifice,
without a price to pay, it’s not possible.
The disciples sent the crowd away because they said to themselves that they were wavering,
without vision, without purpose.
And when they had to run the risk of leaving behind their old mentalities, the disciples told themselves that Jesus could go and rest, that they were fishermen by skill, by experience, by training…
They were used to the difficulties of the sea.
When we tell Jesus to go to sleep, it’s because we’re relying on our own strength,
We tell ourselves that we have our shortcuts that can help us more than he can.
The Lord behaves as we have allowed him to.
In the middle of the sea, a storm arose, the sea was rough.
They thought they could handle it and get out of it.
They found themselves assaulted by the waves, they thought they were going to die.
That’s when they realised that they needed Jesus.
They went to wake him up and he brought them the solution, peace.
Beloved, how can we panic when Jesus is in our boat?
Why are we stressed about finances when we pay our tithes?
How can we be afraid when Jesus is present.
Even if he’s asleep, let’s trust him.
His presence is an assurance,
We cannot capsize when Jesus is there.
We can’t keep looking around worried when Jesus is present.
Let us stop being unbelievers,
Let us stop with our lack of faith that brings Jesus back to the cross.
Our instruction for today, pray that you will always have the same assurance in the Lord.
Hebrews, 3:14 – For we have become partakers of Christ, provided we hold fast to the assurance we had at the beginning,
Over time, we have learned to involve ourselves in God’s service and to wait on him.
We pray to the Lord to continue to have the same zeal as at the beginning of our involvement.
We want to stand firm and let God’s will overwhelm us.
Father, we entrust ourselves to you.
Good day to you all
Good day to you
