Children make us laugh,
Their beauty, innocence and naivety create a natural joy in all of us.
Imagine Sara’s frustration and pain, barrenness on the one hand and God’s promise to have a child on the other.
Should she laugh or cry at the situation when she had reached the menopause?
So when Sara learned that the time for the baby of promise was here, she laughed.
Her laugh was incredulous, her laugh was mocking because she didn’t want to get her hopes up about something that might disappoint her.
This means that the child is a cause for joy,
a subject of testimony,
a source of assurance and confidence.
But Sarah, it’s not impossible for God to make you conceive and give birth even at your advanced age, there’s nothing surprising about God.
Because Sarah and Abraham laughed, God named their blessing: Issac.
Even after their testimony came, they laughed.
The Bible invites us to laugh after the birth of a son.
This means that we should rejoice and be happy when souls are born again.
God gives us the faith that justifies us and makes us acceptable before him.
Even when our faith weakens, God does not abandon us.
He renews our faith so that we can continue to walk with him.
Isaac did not stray from the path his father taught him,
he continued to serve his father’s faithful God.
Isaac was obedient and his father Abraham was proud.
Even when Abraham decided that his servant should go and find him a wife,
he submitted to his Father’s will and authority.
The question we must ask ourselves this morning is this.
Are we, like Isaac, a cause for rejoicing for our parents?
Can our parents count on us?
Are we the kind of people who can obey without question?
Are our parents proud of us?
Do we listen to their advice?
Do we respect them?
We bear the name of our families,
What we do and the kind of person we are will influence people’s opinion of us and our parents.
Children are a big part of their parents’ lives, so let’s just be a source of joy to them.
Proverbs, 23:24 – The father of the righteous will rejoice, He who gives birth to a wise man will be glad.
Proverbs, 23:25 – Let your father and your mother rejoice. Let her who bore you rejoice.
Pray to bring laughter to your parents.
Good morning to you all
Good day to you
