Everyone can have a moment of discouragement.
Everyone can feel weak and vulnerable.
We sometimes experience situations that destabilise us and sometimes lead to a weakening of our faith.
Hard knocks sometimes affect us and distance us from God’s presence, breaking our communion.
Very often, we no longer have the strength to pray.
Many people go through this at this time of year, but we are here this morning to motivate us, to help us persevere.
Each of us is a watchman, we have a responsibility to look out for one another.
In the book of Exodus 17:Exodus, “Amalek came to fight Israel at Rephidim.
*Then Moses said to Joshua, “Choose men for us and go out and fight Amalek; tomorrow I will stand on the hilltop with the rod of God in my hand.
*Joshua did as Moses had said, to fight against Amalek. So Moses, Aaron and Hur went up to the top of the hill.
*When Moses raised his hand, Israel was the strongest; and when he lowered his hand, Amalek was the strongest.
*Moses` hands were weary, so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held up his hands, the one on one side and the other on the other; and his hands remained steady until the sun went down.
*Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.
In this passage, we can see that the people of Israel are supposed to enter into rest and rejoice, but the enemies have risen up against them.
Israel is out of breath from the fighting, even demoralised.
Moses went into the presence of God to implore the Lord’s help, and in the process he became tired and exhausted, and his partners came to help him overcome the weakness he was going through.
Victory depended on Moses’ confidence and strength.
This is not the time to let distress overwhelm us, this is not the time to give up.
Let us turn to the Lord,
let us rely on the promises of the Lord.
There are so many obstacles that can throw us off course, so let’s cling to the word.
Isaiah 35:3 – Strengthen the hands that faint, and make firm the knees that stumble;
Contribute effectively to the strengthening of others.
Hands can lose strength, they can lose vigour in celebration, praise and prevent us from serving the Lord.
Knees that should bend in prayer can become weak.
Let us not allow the enemy to rob our hands and knees of their freshness, their energy, their connection.
And let us be among those who stand in the gap so that others do not fall into this slackness.
Good morning to you all
Have a good day
