We are going to present a case that we certainly all know but that will allow us to understand where the Lord leads us when he speaks to us of perseverance.
The story of the woman in the bible is known but her name is not mentioned, we just know that she is non-Jewish and that her daughter is tormented by an evil spirit.
And Jesus is passing through his city, he wants to escape the crowd to rest but it’s difficult, he’s a celebrity who doesn’t go incognito, everyone knows he’s available and he’s ready to help to the needy.
The woman quoted above is Syrophoenician, she is pagan, there is no relationship between the Jews and them, but she is in a delicate situation, she has looked for solutions everywhere and she has never had answers.
She has heard of Jesus, she is looking for him, Jesus is her only hope.
This mother ends up finding Jesus and cries out her despair.
But Jesus pays no attention to it and the disciples want to chase it away.
The lady, determined, persevering, courageous throws herself at the feet of Jesus and begs him.
And the Lord in a rude, disrespectful, contemptuous way answers him that non-believers have no right to the blessing of the sons of destiny.
This mother does not allow herself to be intimidated by refusal and rejection, she knows what she wants, she knows what she came for, she refuses to be distracted, she thinks about the state of her daughter who gives her the strength and aggressiveness to go all the way.
So she puts her faith above all obstacles and responds to the Lord, that she is aware of being a sinner but even in her sin, she can enjoy grace and deliverance in contact with blessed ground.
Jesus himself was touched by this woman’s response, he saw in her perseverance and he honored her firm faith, he restored his possessed daughter.
Beloved, our responses are proportional to our faith, let’s not give up and trust in Jesus.
The Lord delivers from all kinds of evil.
Lord, help us to persevere in prayer, to come to your feet with our desperate situations, to seek you with conviction.
The Syro-Phoenician woman was not included in today’s calendar but she made her way and today she is mentioned in the Bible.
This woman was looking for the best, there were surely the prophets in the city, she said to herself that it was Jesus, her objective.
She only wanted the crumbs, the waste but she had deliverance, restoration and her spiritual life was established.
And this is what the Lord emphasizes today in Psalms, 112:7 – He is not afraid of bad news; His heart is firm, trusting in The Lord.
Pray to always expect the best.
The psalmist has an assurance of heart, this state of mind allows an unshakable confidence in our God regardless of the planned and unforeseen events of this life.
Whatever happens, we are determined to trust in him.
What would we be afraid of?
Jesus is our light and our salvation.
He is our best choice.
Let’s go without thinking.
hello to us
Have a good day
