We have said that we are in a month of sharing, a month of celebration, a month of communion.
We are invited to pay more attention to what is happening around us.
Many people are going through trials, many are going through difficult times and just need a shoulder to lean on, a support to strengthen them, an ear to listen.
In our churches where we are supposed to be together, we have developed a blatant individualism, we are no longer sensitive to the needs of others, we no longer get involved in the cries of others because the every man for himself system has crept into the house of God.
Even if we behave like this, we are not in the will of God.
Elijah hid for a while to escape from Jezebel.
One day the Lord asked him to go to Serepta to meet a widow to whom he had given instructions.
The Bible tells us that Elijah was a prophet who isolated himself for a period of time and it was not easy for him, it was the Lord who took care of him.
So when he comes out of his tribulations, the Lord wants him to go and settle in Serepta because a widow had to provide for food.
The scriptures tell us that when Elijah enters the city, he asks the widow for food but she lets him know that she has just her last meal and after that it will be death as the famine ruins the country.
The prophet Elijah reassures her, tells her not to fear and to make her food first.
The story tells us that the widow did not frown, she did not murmur, she was not irritated but she obeyed.
She thought of the Servant of God who is in a difficult situation, a brother who needs help.
Because of her obedience and provision, the Lord provided for her house.
He blessed his barn until the rain returned.
In reading this text, we understand that the Lord wants us to be more generous, more selfless, more loving, more hospitable.
Romans, 12:13 – Provide for the needs of the saints. Show hospitality.
Provide for the need of a brother/sister in the Lord.
Hospitality was very important in the early church.
Christians were quick to open their doors to welcome others, they were aware that solving a brother’s problem resulted in great blessings.
Our pastors should not be beggars when we have the ability to feed the altar of God.
It is a sin when we expose a Christian who is in need.
Let us strive to be men with a heart of love,
This is also how the work of God advances.
Let us be more united and let our hearts be joyful too.
Good morning to all
Good day to you
