We bless the name of the Lord on this day,
We glorify the Lord for his faithfulness and love.
We are grateful to him because he never ceases to do great things in our lives.
He never ceases to move us to action,
to contribute to the kingdom,
to spread the word of God.
He invites us to be workers in his house and to get involved so that the gospel can be spread.
Are we true disciples?
Can the church count on us?
Are we counted among those who share God’s word every day?
The world is full of suffering, frustration, pain but we refuse to be at our posts to bring the peace that Jesus has given us.
We refuse to seize the opportunities we have to tell a lost soul, a needy person, someone weakened by illness that Jesus is love, that nothing is impossible for him and that he is always ready to accept us, to love us without judging us.
The Word of God is stagnating because the church no longer has any disciples; we no longer take up God’s work with fervour.
The Bible tells us a story in Acts 6: “At that time, as the number of the disciples increased, the Hellenists murmured against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily distribution.
*The twelve called the multitude of the disciples together and said, “It is not right for us to leave the word of God to be served at tables.
*Therefore, brethren, choose out of your company seven men of good report, full of the Holy Spirit and of wisdom, and let us appoint them.
*And we will continue to devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.
*This proposal pleased the whole assembly. They chose Stephen, a man of faith and of the Holy Spirit, Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicholas, a proselyte of Antiochus.
*They presented them to the apostles, who prayed and laid hands on them.
*The word of God spread more and more, the number of disciples increased greatly in Jerusalem, and great numbers of priests obeyed the faith.
What interests us in this passage are the seven honest and upright men who are chosen to oversee the work of the church.
The church was growing rapidly and people were still needed to help lead and build the kingdom of God.
It is important to note that in this rise, there was discord and disagreement based on cultural, economic and ethical differences that needed to be overcome.
This is why deacons were needed to repair the division and maintain unity.
For there to be an increase in the number of believers,
we need disciples who will talk about Jesus,
witnesses to God’s love.
Disciples are people who believe in the gospel, people who have turned from their sin to embrace God’s forgiveness, people who have had their lives transformed and are motivated to obey what the Lord has commanded them.
Let’s encourage, exhort, develop service so that everyone participates more fully in fellowship and so that everyone’s needs are better met.
And the church will grow.
Acts, 12:24 – But the word of God spread more and more, and the number of disciples increased.
Fast and pray to help increase the number of disciples.
Good day to you all
