My Month Of Honor! Jn12:26

Let’s respect our elders, that’s what God is asking us to do this morning.
The elders are the adults,
the elders,
the elderly,
the elderly.
Wisdom is attributed to them because of their experience,
because of their background.
So it’s clear that the elderly must be respected and honoured.
And it is the responsibility of young people to take care of the elderly, but we are among those who most often neglect those who are ahead of us.
We find them cumbersome,
we reproach them for being too capricious,
we resent them because they are sickly,
we refuse to give them our time,
our love,
our patience.
We think we know more than they do, we believe we can teach them,
educate them because we live in an age of speed.
And yet, the advice of the Wise Men is precious and serious.
We would like to illustrate our point with a story from the Bible
Rehoboam succeeded his father Solomon as King of Israel.
Rehoboam sought the advice of the Council of Wise Men and it was suggested that he should serve his
people as his father Solomon had done.
But the young Rehoboam chose the immaturity and childishness of youth.
The young king chose to impose heavy burdens on his brothers.
This decision cost the king his life and his reputation.
Beloved, we have a listening problem.
Let’s learn to heed the advice of our parents.
They are one step ahead of us and we must give them their place.
It’s a real lack of respect to find ourselves with our elders standing up and us sitting down,
It’s a real shame to find ourselves quarrelling with the leaders.
Pray to always respect the elders.
Leviticus, 19:32 – You shall stand up before the white-haired, and honour the person of the old man. You shall fear your God. I am the Lord.
When we stand before the white hairs, we honour and respect them.
As soon as we honour our forefathers, the Lord is pleased and blesses us.
And let us not forget to give glory to our Father,
he is our creator.
We must be like him.
