The words of Nehemiah, son of Haacaliah. In the month Kisleu, in the twentieth year, while I was in Shushan the capital, Hanani, one of my brothers, and some men came from Judah,
Hanani, one of my brothers, and some men came from Judah. I asked them about the Jews who had escaped from the captivity and about Jerusalem.
They said to me, “Those who are left from the captivity are there in the province, in the height of misfortune and opprobrium; the walls of Jerusalem are in ruins, and its gates are burned with fire.
When I heard these things, I sat down and wept and mourned for many days. I fasted and prayed before the God of heaven,
Then I rose up at night with a few men, and told no one what my God had set my heart to do for Jerusalem. I had no beast of burden with me except my own horse.
This is the story of a man called Nehemiah who learned that the wall of Jerusalem had been destroyed and his people were suffering.
Nehemiah was sad, but he didn’t sit on his hands and get discouraged.
In his pain and distress, he called on his God for divine guidance in this situation,
He implored the Lord to teach him strategies for rebuilding the wall of Jerusalem.
Beloved, to whom do we turn first when we find ourselves in situations that overwhelm us?
Which altar do we go to when we find ourselves in an alarming situation?
How do we react when we have lost control of things?
Do we run to the Lord’s feet with a heavy heart?
Do we complain and murmur?
Do we find solutions elsewhere than at the altar of the Lord?
Nehemiah, in his desolation, took a moment to fast and pray, but what about us?
What did we do at the beginning of this problem?
Where did we go to drink to get clear-cut developments in our challenges?
And what teachings have we received in the presence of God to counteract the adversity before us?
This is the question of the day?
Do we study the programmes of our choice when we are in an important phase or do we ask the Lord for the path to follow?
All this is to say that God invites us to pray to him.
He wants us to learn to seek help and direction in prayer.
Church of Jesus, let’s return to the Lord, we’ve strayed too far, God is able to reveal to us things that are inaccessible, incomprehensible.
He is the one who can tell us how to restore the ancient city of Jerusalem.
Let us not be like the people of Israel, unfaithful and incredulous, who want to do as they please without going into the depths of revelation.
Jeremiah, 33:3 – Call to me, and I will answer you; I will tell you great things, hidden things, which you do not know.
Turn to the Lord for hidden Knowledge.
Let us urge the Lord for new directions in our lives.
If we return to Yaweh, we will never be without direction,
without purpose,
without perspective.
And that’s a decision we have to make, to keep our eyes fixed on God.
