Pride and anger are two friends, two fiery snakes that bite us again and again.
Their venom is so strong and tenacious that we sometimes have trouble curing it.
Everything works together to maintain us and feed our pride,
We think we’re so clever that we don’t mind making fun of others.
Every time we are elevated, we no longer see ourselves sitting with the people who supported us.
We easily lose our loyalty, our integrity, our gratitude and sometimes find ourselves far from the place where the Lord awaits us.
For some who used to go to church, they become forgetful,
they no longer have time for communion,
they have super-important appointments,
they follow the church online…
According to them, God will understand them, he knows himself that it’s not their fault.
In any case, what we want to say this morning is that pride is like a mustard seed that quickly suffocates us.
We must not allow our ego to dictate its laws to us and prevent us from being imitators of God.
No one is safe from this evil seed.
Very quickly, we want to give ourselves glory.
Very quickly, we want to be the centre of the world and very quickly, we want to build a mystery around ourselves.
We work so that the world knows we are Jesus’ favourites and yet the Lord is not in our step.
Pride conceals cunning.
When Dinah was raped by Shechem, there was a conflict between their families.
To make amends and erase their sin, Shechem’s father came to ask for Dinah’s hand in marriage for his son. He agreed to obey all the conditions that the people of Israel would impose.
The agreement was validated, the covenant was sealed, but the Bible says that Simeon and Levi,
the children of God, the sons of the shepherd, could not control themselves.
Those who were supposed to know that vengeance belongs to God,
those who were supposed to know that forgiveness is a great key to blessing, found themselves tearing down an entire village.
In their view, it was unacceptable to dishonour their sister.
In their view, not even marriage could remedy the situation.
According to them, silence and calm were a sign of weakness.
According to them, their father was old, without authority, and as elders, they had to prove that what happened to others couldn’t happen to them, and that’s how it happened.
Even when Jacob, their father, wanted to make peace,
their pride destroyed everything and made Jacob very sad.
Beloved, this action took Simeon and Levi out of the birthright, since Reuben had already been disqualified.
The seed of pride in our lives must be uprooted and thrown into the fire.
We cannot serve the Lord in the garment of pride, we cannot have access to his fullness if we are always in our heights.
Proverbs, 29:23 – A man`s pride brings him low, but he who is humble in spirit gains glory.
Pray that every seed of pride in you will be uprooted and consumed.
Pride makes us ridiculous because it is our flesh that wants to satisfy itself.
But when we know how to submit to authority,
when our ego is silenced, our eyes are opened and we can see clearly the opportunities, the connections that lie before us.
Our humility is our success.
Shalom
Have a good day
