My Month Of Humility! Matt18:4

We have many things that foster pride in our lives.
If we let our blessings keep us from the glory of God, we will be struck down.
Our riches rule our lives,
Our positions have caused us to despise many people,
Our influence has crushed our neighbours.
We have not always been able to control our vices,
we refused to let God break us despite the warnings we received.
This is what a story in the book of Daniel tells us.
At the end of twelve months, as he was walking through the royal palace in Babylon,
the king spoke up and said, “Is this not Babylon the great, which I have built as a royal residence by the power of my might and for the glory of my magnificence?
While the word was still in the king`s mouth, a voice came down from heaven, saying, “Hear, King Nebuchadnezzar, that the kingdom is to be taken from you.
They shall drive you out from among men, and you shall dwell with the animals of the field, and they shall give you grass to eat as oxen; and seven times shall pass over you, until you know that the Most High rules over the kingdom of men, and gives it to whom he pleases.
At the same time, the word was fulfilled on Nebuchadnezzar. He was driven from the midst of men, he ate grass like oxen, his body was drenched with the dew of heaven; until his hair grew like the feathers of eagles, and his nails like those of birds.
Here was a mighty king, Nebuchadnezzar by name, who marvelled at the splendour of his achievement.
He did not remember that it was God who gave him wisdom and strength,
he did not remember that it was God who established his throne,
he did not remember that it was God who made the work of his hands prosper.
His heart was filled with pride,
he saw himself as great, untouchable, invincible.
Because of his pride, he, who was the greatest king on earth, was condemned to madness.
Seven years of humiliating madness,
seven years of shame and disgrace.
Luke, 1:52 – He has put down the mighty from their thrones, and exalted the lowly.
Pray for the overthrow of every proud adversary in your life.
We think that reigning guarantees our power.
Many have held high positions and failed to recognise God’s place in their glory.
The Bible tells us that God is the master of times and circumstances,
when we use our authority to trample on others and weaken them,
God rises up and brings it all down,
He turns the situation around to bring us back into his ways.
And when Nebuchadnezzar saw his throne unstable, he submitted and gave glory to the Almighty with humility: After the appointed time, I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted up my eyes to heaven, and my reason returned to me. I blessed the Most High, and praised and glorified him who lives forever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and whose kingdom endures from generation to generation.
If we do not diminish
if we do not give way to the Lord,
if we do not let God be the master of the ceremony,
we risk stumbling and breaking.
So to preserve our kingdom, let’s quietly return to our first love.
