John tells us about Gaius because he appreciates his hospitality, his works are sincere and he walks in God’s truth.
Some of the brothers went to Gaius’ house, saw how he lived and gave a good account of him to John.
Nowadays, we see so many things and everyone has their own truth.
We refuse to submit to the word of God, we take our opinions and turn them into truths.
What interests us this morning is Gaius’ compassion for the welfare of others.
Can you imagine what it’s like to visit us and tell us about the positive things we’ve seen in others?
Gaius does not praise himself; it is others who give an account of his love and help.
Hospitality is a responsibility and a privilege for us who serve the Lord, which is why we must do it willingly.
We are told that some poor brothers went on a mission, they were travelling for the work of God, they had no resources, no income, but Gaius made everything they needed available to them.
He didn’t know them, but his love for the Lord encouraged him to help strangers.
Being helped and welcomed by someone who doesn’t know us automatically gives rise to a testimony.
In 3 John 1, The Elder, to Gaius, the beloved, whom I love in truth.
Beloved, I wish you to prosper in every way and to be in good health, just as the state of your soul prospers.
I rejoiced greatly when the brothers came and testified to the truth that is in you, to the way you walk in the truth.
I have no greater joy than to learn that my children walk in the truth.
Beloved, you act faithfully in what you do for the brethren, and even for foreign brethren,
who have borne witness to your charity in the presence of the Church. You will do well to provide for their journey in a manner worthy of God.
For it was for the name of Jesus Christ that they set out, receiving nothing from the pagans.
We must therefore welcome such men, so that we may be workers with them for the truth.
The Lord quietly invites us to be generous,
Let us share what we have with others, encourage them and love them.
Assist others adequately.
Romans, 12:15 – Rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who weep.
Let us stand by those who suffer, acknowledge their pain, express our condolences, and reassure them with our love and prayers.
This verse teaches us Christian compassion,
Let us not be insensitive or indifferent to those who are broken or wounded.
But let us also accompany others in their celebrations.
Let us be fraternal, let us be thoughtful,
let us be compassionate, let us be quick to reach out,
let us be a comfort to others.
And the Lord will remember us as we obey his command.
Good day to you all
Good day to you all
